Merry Christmas from Bethlehem

This holiday season,

I flew non-stop

Los Angeles to Bethlehem.

I went to see Him,

Little Baby Jesus,

to tell Him a few things:

how I felt about 2020,

and my wishes for 2021.

I saw the shining star,

on top of the holy hut.

Jesus was in his crib

staring at the firmament.

All around Him, angels

sang: “Hallelujah,”

as they drifted through the air

in honor of the newborn.

“Excuse me,” I said,

“my name is Sam.

I come from California.

I am not sure if you know,

Drawing by Viktoria's niece, Ninka Stanclova

the world has lost its bolts.

It’s time for you to come

and see what’s going on,

to put an end to the nonsense.”

Baby Jesus was silent.

He peered at me

as if I was the nonsense.

I stepped closer to the crib:

“How can this be?” I exclaimed.

“Oh, my God,

is it Jesus that I see,

or is he a mirror of me?”

“That’s right,” spoke Him,

“what you see, I see,

what you think, I think.

Because you are Jesus,

and I am who you are. We are one thing. Your wishes are mine, my hopes are your dreams.

What are you waiting for?

The second coming?

What I can do, so can you.

The change begins with you.

What needs to be done

it’s within your reach:

it starts with your best,

from the goodness of your heart.

So, I returned home.

Was I in Bethlehem?

Or turning in my bed?

Either way, I am happy,

I feel reborn,

just like Baby Jesus.

And I am ready

for a new year, thankful for this moment,

which is, of Christmas,

the most beautiful gift.

Merry Christmas

and Happy New Year!
